Elaine has been an integral part of Aspire since February 2021 and we’re honoured to be able to take advantage of her 48 years experience in Accountancy which makes her an extremely focused team player, but with a fun side too, she’s great company to be around.
Hi I’m Elaine 65yrs old (but don’t write me off yet)
I was raised in Leigh & live in Atherton and as the middle child of 5 children, I’ve a personality character to match – creative, a good social life & flourishing career.
After leaving Leigh Girls Grammar School, I went to Leigh Technical where I did a Senior Secretarial course. This included Secretarial Duties, Accountancy, Deportment Classes (which worked when I was younger but not now, I’m not as agile as I was. I had visions of being a glamorous secretary but I went for my first job interview and thought “NO WAY this is not for me I LOVE MATHS!”
I applied for a job at a Chartered Accountants in Leigh and realized that was where my forte lay so I continued studying and got the qualifications to take me onto ACCA exams course but I then had an invitation to join Tyldesley Little Theatre (TLT) as their accountant & had a major decision to make. I took up their offer and you could say, tread the board for about 20 years.
In my career I’ve worked my way through the ranks. In one of my first roles, I wasn’t allowed a calculator to add up a 16 column analysis book I had to do it in my head, so if I was going to quit the profession anytime, it would have been after that!
I spent 38 years with my last company before furlough and redundancy over Covid which was a strain on my mental health but applied for the role with Aspire and with the help of Jenny, Denisa , Lou & Alex I’m laughing again & thoroughly enjoying my role.
Outside work to relax, I love knitting, especially complicated stiches as I like the challenge and I also love reading, cooking, doing crosswords and watching quiz programmes – although I’m extremely good at getting the wrong answers!
“I was in a right mess confused overwhelmed and just about ready to give up on my dream
and go back to continuing helping someone else achieve theirs. But then in came Jenny and Denisa.”
