Where does it come from and where does it go ? What you need to know if you’re importing and/or exporting goods?

June 16, 2021
  • Do you buy goods from a seller in the EU and bring them into the UK?
  • Do you send goods overseas to buyers in an EU country?
  • Maybe you move equipment that you use for your business between the UK and an EU country?

If all or any of the above apply to your business, then you need to be aware of new customs and tax rules that you must be acting in accordance with, so that your business can meet its customs, excise, import VAT or safety and security declaration requirements.  There are so many aspects and facets to the area of import and export that you have to get it right and it can be a minefield. At Aspire we are striving to assist all of our clients through the myriad of confusion but ultimately, the responsibility is down to the business itself.

But enough of the doom and gloom – the good news is that if your business has less than £1m turnover and less than 500 employees, you can apply for the SME Brexit Support Fund here https://bit.ly/3pQf9FP  (before 30 June) which provides up to £2k to smaller businesses to pay to obtain the  practical support, including training or professional advice to adjust to the new customs, rules of origin and VAT rules when trading with the EU areas which cover areas  such as how to complete customs declaration and how to manage customers processes and use their software and also to understand the specific import and export related aspects including VAT, excise and rules of origin.

HMRC have also put together a free webinar https://bit.ly/3gnMfty   if you buy goods from the EU, or send or sell goods to the EU for your business to help you understand the requirements and how they may apply to your business.

If you want to understand more, you can register for further HMRC webinars that are shown frequently and the links are below :-

If you’re planning to import and want to understand the full declarations process you can register for their Customs Import Declarations webinar https://bit.ly/3gnMfty
